DNOT who is also a gifted poet delivers his lyrics in free-flowing indigenous Yoruba language earning him the sobriquet Ibile from fans at Tai Solarin University of Education where he first amassed fame. The Ikorodu, Lagos born talent studied Music and Theatre Arts and graduated in 2010.
According the talented act, DNOT is a sobriquet for ‘The New Orientation’ and when he is not performing music, he teaches it to secondary school students in Lagos State under Maryland District.
His words, “music is my call and I enjoy teaching it. My students and I have won a couple of awards to show for this.”
The budding lyricist has also worked with artistes such as 9ice and Dj Jimmy Jatt among others. DNot has shot a music video which will begin promotion on major urbane music channels and satellite stations within and outside Nigeria.
He revealed, “I have heard people compare my rap with that of late Dagrin of blessed memory. There was one event where I came up before him at a show and the similarity in our delivery almost caused a clash. But after the performance, I met his manager Tunde Peters and we worked together“.
According to Ibrahim Saliu, CEO of Salome Music Worldwide, DNot is the next big thing to watch out for in the music industry.
Salome as the label boss is called recollects, “My meeting with DNot was nothing else but a divine arrangement. It was love at first sight and I fell in love with his infectious lyrics and the energy behind his music. I have no doubts that music fans will see what I saw in him.”
On plans by SMW for their prized asset, the label executive disclosed that focus is on creating conducive atmosphere for creativity to thrive. “For us, this is not about flashy cars and fancy buildings.
We are putting in place the right structures for our artiste’s creativity to thrive. SMW is a serious business organization that started as a movement when I was in school. Officially, we registered the record label in 2015.”
